The Maize and Blue will not have an individual travel with them.
Last Year at the Landfall: Michigan Closes Fall with 11th-Place Finish at Landfall
Battling cold and winds throughout the three days, the Wolverines closed out the fall season with an 11th place showing at the 2005 Landfall Tradition on the Jack Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The Maize and Blue finished the 54-hole tournament with a 952 54-hole total (316-321-315). For the fifth straight tournament former Wolverine Amy Schmucker led the Wolverines as she recorded her fifth straight top 20 finish with a 230 total (82-74-74). Ali Stinson was 22nd with a 231 54-hole total (76-76-79). Other Wolverine finishes included: Brianna Broderick, 49th with a 243 total (78-86-79), sophomore Lydia Bentez Coln (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Pendleton School), 54th with a 248 total (80-85-83) and junior Isabelle Gendreau (St. Georges de Beauce, Quebec/Saint Andrew's School), 60th with a 266 total (87-93-86).
What a Fall So Far -- Rack Up Three Straight Top Fives
For the third straight tournament, Brianna Broderick led the Wolverines and finished among the top five individually. This weekend she tied for fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship. To kick off the 2006-07 season, she tied for runner-up at the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 16-17) and followed with her second career medalist honor at the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). She leads the Wolverines with a career-best pace 73.22 strokes per round.
Tying The Career Best Score, Yet Again
With her final-round one-under 70 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Brianna Broderick tied her career best for a single-round tally. Two weeks ago Broderick set a new career best with a one-under 70 in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational, an event she went on to win. In both career-best rounds she posted 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys. Overall, it marked her third round under par this season and 11th career round under par.
Just Missing Another Top Total
Brianna Broderick's five-over 218 total at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship was a season-best 54-hole tournament total and just barely missed her career-best total of 217, set at 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate (Nov. 1-2). In three tournaments this season, Broderick is averaging 219.67 per 54-hole tournament.
Seniors Continue to Be Lineup Staples
By playing in the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson played in their 38th straight tournaments for the Maize and Blue. The duo has yet to miss a tournament in their entire career. In fact the duo has also started all 38 of those tournaments. Former Wolverine Laura Olin holds the U-M record for consecutive tournaments, playing in 50 straight in her career.
More From the Starting Lineup
Brianna Broderick, Ali Stinson, Lindsay Davis and Ashley Bauer have started every tournament this season. All four will be in the starting lineup for the Landfall Tradition this weekend. Together they have helped the Wolverines with eight top 20, five top 10 and four top five individual finishes. They also helped the Wolverines to the team title at the Wolverine Invitational.
Ratigan Starting to Find Comfort
With her second-round 78 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Andrea Ratigan set a new career best in her early career. She topped the 83 she had in her first collegiate round at the Wolverine Invitational. She also closed with a career-best 54-hole tournament total at 238, bettering by 14 shots her previous best -- 252 at the Wolverine Invitational. She has started the last two tournaments for the Wolverines and is averaging 81.67 per round.
Miss Consistency Keeps On Going
Arguably one of the most consistent golfers in Michigan history, Ali Stinson opened her senior campaign by earning the fourth top-five finish of her career, tying for fifth at the Lady Northern Invitational. She followed that with a top 20 performance at the Wolverine Invitational, helping the Maize and Blue to its fourth title in the last five years. She is second on the team with a 76.89 scoring average. In 38 career tournaments, Stinson has 16 top 20 finishes for the Wolverines.
Playing Like a Veteran
In her first two collegiate tournaments, Ashley Bauer collected two top-20 finishes with a tie for seventh at the Wolverine Invitational, and a tie for 17th at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 16-17). With her second-round, one-over 72 at the Wolverine Invitational, she lowered her career best single-round total, topping the 74 she had in the third round of the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 16-17). In her first season, Bauer is averaging 78.33 strokes per round.
Davis Gets New Career Best Total
With her second-round one-under 70 at the Wolverine Invitational, Lindsay Davis set a new career best for a single-round tally. During the round she posted 11 pars, four birdies (Nos. 3, 7, 13, 17) and three bogeys (Nos. 4, 5 and 18). Davis topped her previous single-round best of 72, which she has recorded three times in her career. Overall, it marked her fourth career round under par.
Home Cookin' ... Wolverines Add the Hardware Again
Michigan won its fourth Wolverine Invitational team title in the last five years. The title gives the Wolverine program its eighth trophy in 23 events at the U-M Golf Course, putting it atop the record book for most team titles in the Ann Arbor event. With Brianna Broderick's medalist honor, a Michigan player has won the individual title at the Wolverine Invitational four times in the last eight events held at the U-M Golf Course.
Keeping the Trophy Case Full
Michigan has now won at least one tournament in each of the last four seasons. The title also marks the 27th for the Maize and Blue in the history of the program. The team crystal marks U-M coach Kathy Teichert's 20th title in her 14 seasons with the Wolverines.
Chalk Up No. 2 In the Stellar Career
After winning the playoff, Brianna Broderick's medalist honor at the Wolverine Invitational was the second in her collegiate career. She won her first title at the 2004 Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 18-19), and also has five top-five career finishes. Broderick made it back-to-back tournaments raising a trophy, after she opened the season earning the runner-up trophy at the 2006 Mary Fossum Invitational.
Continuing the Postseason Trend
As the fall season continues to be a success for Michigan, the Wolverines will be looking to keep their postseason successes rolling. Michigan has had a team or individual representative receive invitation to an NCAA Regional in five of the last six years. In fact, this year's Maize and Blue will host the 2007 NCAA Central Regional at the U-M Golf Course (May 10-12). In addition to the NCAA success, the Wolverines have also finished among the top five at the Big Ten Championships in five of the last six years as well, including the program's best finish ever, closing as the runner-up in 2005. U-M has also had at least one player be named an All-Big Ten Golfer the last three straight years.
Golf Digest Ranks Wolverines Among Top 50 Programs
The Wolverines were named one of the NCAA's 50 Best Colleges for Women's Golf in the September issue of Golf Digest, which is highlighted by the second annual College Golf Guide. The Wolverines received a No. 38 ranking on this prestigious list. The Maize and Blue joins three other Big Ten programs honored as the NCAA's best golf institutions: Ohio State (No. 18), Purdue (No. 36) and Michigan State (No. 46).
