ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The national champion University of Michigan softball team will be honored by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and before the start of the Michigan football game vs. Notre Dame on Sept. 10. The following week, the softball team will travel to Lansing on Tuesday, Sept. 13, for a ceremony in which they will be recognized at the state capitol.
Head coach Carol Hutchins and the rest of the Wolverines will be honored at Comerica Park when the Tigers face the Cleveland Indians at 7:05 p.m. The team will arrive early at Comerica Park and go out on the field to watch the Tigers take batting practice while meeting the players. Before the first pitch, the Wolverines will be honored with a brief video montage and the public address announcer will recap U-M's golden season.
Later that week, the U-M softball team will be recognized in a brief ceremony before the start of the Michigan football game vs. the Irish. These festivities will cap a busy off-season for the U-M softball team that has already included a national championship celebration on Alumni Field and a trip to the White House in July.
The Wolverines open their 2005 fall tournament schedule at the Elk Rapids Collegiate Softball Tournament (Sept. 24-25) in Elk Rapids, Mich., before traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for the Nebraska Fall Classic (Oct. 14-16).
