Michigan Coach Andrew Sapp
On the Wolverines' Big Ten Tournament ... "There were definitely some positives that came out of this tournament, but whenever you finish 10th out of 11 teams, whether it is Big Ten's or the NCAA's you're not going home with a whole lot of positive feelings. We did play well yesterday. We were really hoping to back that performance up and use that momentum in the final round. Unfortunately we were not able to take that momentum and play well. We just played poorly on our back nine, which was the front-nine after we began the day off the 10th tee. We just didn't finish the way we wanted to. When it is a tight race and a lot of teams are packed in together, if you don't play well the final round you are going to see yourself drop down the leaderboard."
On his early thoughts of the 2004-05 season ... "To have a bunch of young guys get this experience of playing in the conference championship was a good step for us. I think Michigan State finished ninth of 10th last year and the next year they win it, that is what we have to shoot for. We need to take this year and learn from it. We need to take the experience that these young players got, have them work super hard over the summer and come back next fall ready to compete for the Big Ten title."
Junior Christian Vozza
On his Big Ten Championship ... "I felt like I played a lot better than my score showed. The first round I had a few birdies, but I had a few double-bogeys and that brought me back a few strokes, which was more than I wanted. The second round, I really hit the ball great. I missed so many easy up and downs. It could have been really, really low. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But I was encouraged by the way I hit the ball and I thought I could have brought that into the last day. I kind of had it going for a little bit, and had it one-under at one point, but I just kind of lost it near the end. Overall, I hit the ball well and I will definitely say this was positive weekend. I am excited about taking this into the summer and coming back next year as well."
