SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The University of Michigan football program, making its NCAA-leading 31st consecutive bowl appearance and 37th overall bowl trip, has accepted an invitation to play in the 2005 MasterCard Alamo Bowl. The Wolverines (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) will play the University of Nebraska from the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from the Alamodome in San Antonio. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN at 7 p.m. CST (8 p.m. EST).
This will be the sixth meeting between the Wolverines and Cornhuskers, with U-M holding a 3-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. Michigan defeated Nebraska 27-23 in 1986 Fiesta Bowl, the last meeting between the two schools and the only previous match-up during the bowl season.
Michigan will be making its second appearance in the Alamo Bowl. The Wolverines lost 22-20 to Texas A&M in the 1995 Alamo Bowl during head coach Lloyd Carr's first season.
