Four Michigan Players, Team Earn Awards from NSCAA

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's soccer program earned four individual awards and one team award as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Judy Coffman (San Jose, Calif./Santa Theresa), Melissa Dobbyn (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), Therese Heaton (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville), and Katelin Spencer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) all received individual NSCAA awards. The Wolverines garnered the Women's Collegiate Team Academic Award for posting a team grade point average over 3.0.
Dobbyn was named to the All-Great Lakes Region second team after collecting a team-high 32 points on 12 goals and eight assists while starting all 21 matches this season. She also led the Wolverines in shots with 87, which is the third-highest total in program history. Her 32 points, eight assists and 87 shots all ranked third in the Big Ten Conference, while her goal total of 12 ranked in tie for fifth in the conference with teammate Heaton.
Spencer earned first team Scholar All-Central Region honors, while Coffman and Heaton each received second team Scholar All-Central Region honors. Heaton also nabbed second team honors last year in 2004.
Heaton, a tri-captain this season, ranked second on the team in goals (11), assists (6) and points (28) while starting all 21 games this season. Her 80 career points are the fourth-highest in program history. This season she also became the all-time career games played leader with 92.
Coffman ranked third on the team in goals (6) and points (14), while her shot total (66) was the second highest on the squad. Spencer collected four assists, which ranked third on the team. Both players also started every game this season for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines finished the 2005 season with an 8-9-4 record, reaching the finals of the Big Ten Tournament.
