Avant Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior wide receiver and co-captain Jason Avant (Chicago, Ill./Carver HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first team announced today (Nov. 10) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Avant advances to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Avant leads the team, ranks third in the Big Ten and is among the top 25 nationally in all receiving categories. He has career highs in every major receiving category this season, catching 65 passes for 834 yards (12.8 avg.) and six touchdowns. He has three 100-yard receiving efforts this season and has collected five or more receptions and 65 or more receiving yards in all nine games. Avant has scored a touchdown in five of the nine contests and has receiving TDs in eight of his past 12 games played dating back to last season. His 65 catches this season rank ninth all-time on Michigan's season reception list and he needs 191 receiving yards to jump into the top 10 on the school's season receiving yardage rankings.
A Biletnikoff Award candidate, Avant heads into the Indiana game 10 receptions shy of third place on Michigan's career receptions list and needs 90 receiving yards to move from 10th to seventh place on the school's career receiving yardage list. Avant has 152 receptions for 2,074 career yards and has scored 11 receiving touchdowns. Avant is tied for fourth in career receptions, 10th in receiving yards and is tied for 14th in receiving touchdowns. He has four career 100-yard receiving games, two on the road at Iowa (2003, 2005) and at Wisconsin and against Northern Illinois this season. He has made at least one reception in 32 consecutive games played.
