Before withdrawing from the tournament, Vozza was atop the leaderboard after carding rounds of three-under 68 and a U-M record-tying seven-under 64. In spite of Vozza's injury, Brian Ottenweller led the charge as he tied for third overall with a career-best five-under 207 54-hole total (66-68-73), while Brandon Duff followed as he tied for 40th with 218 54-hole total (68-76-74). He tied All-American Michael Harris' 64 he had at the 1998 Xavier Invitational (Oct. 12-13). After bogeying the first hole, Vozza recorded an eagle and six birdies to finish the record setting round. Vozza's previous best score was a six-under 66 fired in the third round of the 2004 Landfall Tradition (Oct. 29-31). So far this season, Vozza has seven of 11 rounds under par. In fact he is three-under par if you added his entire season up.

Doing It Again

Three weeks ago, he fired back-to-back four-under 67s in the first and second round of the Wolverine Intercollegiate (Sept. 24-25). He has posted four of nine season rounds under par, with all four of those rounds below 70 strokes. In addition to his single round score, he tallied a six-under 207 54-hole total at the MacKenzie to give him another career-best by a single stroke. He topped the five-under 208 he had two weeks ago at the Wolverine.
Coming Back Strong
After missing most of last season with a shoulder injury, Brandon Duff continues to make the most of his senior campaign. His first round three-under 68 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational (Oct. 10-11) was a career-best by a single stroke. Three weeks ago, he set his best with a two-under 69 in the second round of the Wolverine Intercollegiate (Sept. 24-25). In addition, Duff's 218 54-hole total at the MacKenzie marks the second time in his career and second time this season he has broken 220 for a 54-hole tournament. Earlier, he posted a career-best one-under 215 at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate (Sept. 10-11).
First in Four Years is Oh So Sweet!
Michigan's victory at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate is the first team title for the program in four years. The last time the Wolverines hoisted a team trophy was in the 2000-01 season, when the Maize and Blue won the Wolverine South Invitational (March 3-4, 2001) at the Hunter Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. The Wolverines 839 54-hole team total smashed the program's top mark for a tournament tally by 16 strokes. The previous record was an 855 total at the 1992 Stanford Invitational (Oct. 17-19).
Vozza Gives First Individual Title in Four Years
Christian Vozza used three straight under par rounds to win his first collegiate event at the 2005 Wolverine Intercollegiate. He finished with a one-shot victory with a career-best 205 total (67-69-69). The last time a Wolverine has won medalist honors in a tournament was the 2001 Wolverine South Invitational (March 3-4), when Andrew Chapman secured his first win of his collegiate career with a rain-shortened 141 (72-69) 36-hole total.
