Wolverines Shut Out by Purdue in Big Ten Road Action

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell to Purdue 1-0 Sunday (Oct. 2) at the Varsity Soccer Complex. The Wolverines could only muster nine shots and were outshot for only the fourth time in 11 games this season. Junior goalkeeper Megan Tuura (Tucker, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic) had five saves in the loss.
The Wolverines defense stifled Purdue's quick offensive start to begin the game, with junior defender Brenna Mulholland (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) making big contributions on the back end. Michigan's best chance of the half came on a free kick by Melissa Dobbyn (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson). Dobbyn's shot, however, was punched just over the crossbar by Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason. The two teams played to a draw for the first half of the game.
Purdue tallied the only goal of the game at 59:42 as Jessica Okoroafo dribbled through the Michigan defense and put one behind Tuura to make the score 1-0. The Wolverines had a chance late on a corner kick with just over three minutes left, but the Boilermakers were able to clear.
The Wolverines return home next weekend for a Big Ten matchup against Northwestern on Friday (Oct. 7) at U-M Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
