ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan distance runner Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) set a new school record by clocking in at 4:09.94 in the 1,500-meter run at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials (July 16-18), earning a berth in the final. Gallo ran a strong final to place 11th in a competitive field, finishing as the top collegian in a time of 4:14.70.
The previous Wolverine record in the 1,500-meter was held by All-American and University of Michigan Women's Track and Field Hall of Fame member Sue Foster, who ran the 1,500 meters in 4:11.23 in 1983.
Gallo was a three-time NCAA All-American during the 2004 indoor and outdoor seasons, earning All-America honors at the indoor meet by finishing sixth in the mile run and anchoring the Wolverines' seventh-place distance medley relay team, while claiming fourth place in the 1,500-meter run at the outdoor meet. In addition, Gallo was named the Verizon Academic All-American Athlete of the Year for her efforts on and off the track.
