Armstrong, Nisbet Garner AWPCA All-America Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The American Water Polo Coaches Association announced today (Tuesday, May 25) that University of Michigan junior goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and senior center Julie Nisbet (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) were selected to the All-America team for the 2004 season. Armstrong was named to the second team while Nisbet earned honorable mention.

Armstrong is the first Michigan player to earn second-team honors. This is also her third consecutive year being named to the All-America team as she was awarded honorable mention in 2002 and '03. This season, Armstrong was named the CWPA Division MVP for the second straight year and set school records with 350 blocks, a 4.45 goals-against average and a .734 save percentage. She also had 20 games this season with 10 or more saves, including two games with more than 20 stops.

This is the second time Nisbet has earned All-America honorable mention. She also won the award as a sophomore in 2002. Nisbet earned CPWA All-Division first-team honors for the fourth time in her career, scoring 33 goals and setting a U-M record with 59 drawn ejections in her senior season.

The AWPCA selects first, second and third teams for its Division I All-America awards. For voting, players receive three points for a first team nomination, two points for a second team nomination, and one point for a third team nomination. A player may earn honorable mention if she receives votes from two schools, excluding her own.
