Over U-M's two games, Welch totaled six goals, two assists, three steals and a drawn ejection. Through 33 games this season, she leads the Wolverines with 43 goals and 40 steals, becoming the first Michigan player to record a 40 goals-40 steals season.
This is the first time in her career that Welch has won the CWPA Player of the Week award, and she joins three other Wolverines who have won the award this season. Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) has claimed the title three times (Jan. 29, March 4, March 11), Sheetal Narsai (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens HS) was honored on Feb. 19 and Casey Kerney won the award on Feb. 12.
The eighth-ranked Wolverines (25-8, 8-0 CWPA) begin their postseason run by hosting the CWPA Western Division Championship on April 17-18 at Canham Natatorium. Michigan will begin the tournament with a match against either Penn State Behrend or Salem International at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17.
