COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Paced by three Wolverines firing four-over 76s in the third round, the University of Michigan women's golf team moved up a single spot in the standings to fourth overall at the 2004 Big Ten Championships at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. The Maize and Blue have a 925 54-hole total after tallying a 308-team total in the third round today (Saturday, April 24). The Wolverines had team rounds of 312 and 305 in yesterday's first two rounds.
Freshman Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) continues her strong conference championships run as she is tied for ninth individually with a 227 total (76-75-76). In the third round Broderick was the first of three Wolverines to record a four-over 76. After bogeying No. 2, she rolled through the next 10 holes, playing them one-under after a birdie on No. 8. She would find trouble in her next six holes as she bogeyed 13 and 17 and double-bogeyed No. 15 to push to a third round four-over par.
Sophomore Brandi Zielinski (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) moved up in the third round after recording a career-best single round tally of four-over 76. After recording bogey's on No. 2 and 6, she sat at two-over through six holes. She parred her next 11 holes before finding trouble on No. 18, double-bogeying it, to close out at four-over par. Zielinski is now tied for 21st with a 235 total (79-80-76).
Sophomore Amy Schmucker (Cold Springs, Minn./Rocori HS) is tied for 29th after 54-holes with a 237 total (80-81-76). She snapped her first day struggles firing the Wolverines third 76 of the third round. After three bogey's through her first five holes, she parred her next four holes to close out the front nine at plus-three. A bogey on No. 10 was negated by a birdie on No. 12, but a double-bogey on No. 13 put her to plus-five with five holes remaining. Schmucker found success playing those last five holes one-under after a birdie on No. 16 to put her a four-over for the round.
Other Wolverine tallies through 54-holes include: freshman Ali Stinson (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary), tied for 21st with a 235 total (80-75-80), junior Laura Olin (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS), tied for 34th with a 239 total (83-75-81) and redshirt freshman Molly Spalding (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS), tied for 47th with a 244 total (77-83-84).

The Hoosiers (308-297-299) is atop the leaderboard with a 904 54-hole total, while the Buckeyes (301-299-306) drop into the second spot at 906. Purdue is third with a 918 total.

Ohio State's Allison Hanna, the first day leader, dropped into the second spot with a 219 total (72-73-74) and Wisconsin's Malinda Johnson (72-73-77) and Indiana's Karen Dennison (76-71-75) are tied for the third spot with 222 totals.
