Stephenson Leads U-M Throwing Trio at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- University of Michigan women's track and field graduate/senior Lindsey Stephenson (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg HS) placed third in the javelin to pace the efforts of a trio of Wolverines over two days of action at the Florida Relays, which concluded Saturday (March 27).
Stephenson earned her third-place showing in her specialty event, the javelin, when she marked a season-best distance of 154-1. Stephenson's mark bettered her week-old season best of 150-7 set at the Florida State Relays.
Michigan also received a third-place showing by senior quad-captain Melissa Bickett (Akron, Ohio/Revere HS), as she marked a regional-qualifying distance of 168-8 in the discus. Bickett's distance was 3-3 better than fourth-place Precious Akins of South Carolina (165-5).
Senior/junior Ashley Eckel (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) added an eighth-place finish in the invitational hammer throw as she tossed the ball and chain a regional-qualifying mark of 179-5. Bickett finished 10th in the event at 162-6.
Eckel also finished 10th in the shot put with a regional-qualifying mark of 47-7 1/4.

The Wolverines will get back to team action next weekend, as they send split squads to the South Florida Invitational and the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The South Florida Invite will take place Friday and Saturday (April 2-3) in Tampa, Fla., while the Yellow Jacket Invite will be held on Saturday (April 3) in Atlanta, Georgia.
