Gallo Wins Two Event Titles at South Florida Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. -- University of Michigan women's track and field middle distance runner Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) led the Maize and Blue charge at the two-day South Florida Invitational, which concluded Saturday (April 3) as the senior/junior posted top honors in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs. Both victories came on the second day of action at the USF Soccer-Track Stadium. Also posting first-place finishes were Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele HS), Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS), Ana Gjesdal (LaCrescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS) and senior quad-captain Melissa Bickett (Akron, Ohio/Revere HS).
On day two, Gallo earned her first of two wins when she crossed the line of the open section of the 800-meter run with a winning time of 2:11.07. Following Gallo across the line were six other Wolverines as U-M went 1-3-5-6-11-14-20-21 in the event. Erdman was second in the race, also clocking in with a regional qualifying mark of 4:28.65.
Gallo later returned to the track to post her second win of the evening, earning a victory in the invitational section of the 1,500-meter run with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 4:23.47. The time bettered the field by five seconds.
Adding wins on day two were Gjesdal, who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:00.14, and Bickett, who marked 177-1 to win her specialty event, the discus. Bickett's distance in the discus surpassed the regional qualifying mark of 152-10 by nearly 22 feet.
Feldkamp posted the first win of the weekend as she led a 1-2-3 Wolverine finish across the line with a winning mark of 4:38.24 in the 1,500-meter run. The junior's time was nearly three seconds ahead of teammate Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child HS), who finished runner-up in 4:41.20. Chelsea Homan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) rounded out the group with a third-place showing of 4:44.42, and Gjesdal was sixth (4:52.80).
Erdman was next to claim victory when she upped her usual running distance and won the 3,000-meter run with a clocking of 9:44.82. Erdman's first-place showing also paced a 1-2-3 U-M showing in the race as Jessie Allen-Young (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley HS) and Jackie Gaydos (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park HS) followed her across the finish line with times of 9:46.27 and 9:48.29, respectively.
