Michigan overcame a three-goal deficit for a win for the first time since March 26, 1999, when it beat Denver 5-3 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional in Worcester, Mass. On Jan. 20, 2001, Michigan trailed Western Michigan 4-1 and came back to earn a tie, 4-4.
Michigan equaled its season high for goals in a game with eight. The Wolverines set the season mark in their last game with an 8-0 win at Notre Dame on Dec. 4.
Michigan's five-goal third period is its highest output in one period this season. U-M had previously recorded four goals in the first period against Boston University on Oct. 9. The last time U-M had five tallies in a period was when it had seven in the first period against Western Michigan on Jan. 10, 2003.
The Wolverines recorded at least one power-play goal in a game for the 11th time in 17 games. Michigan has had multiple power-play markers in three straight contests and five times overall. U-M had three goals tonight on eight chances. Michigan is 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) on the man-advantage over the last three games.
Since allowing a first-period, power-play goal to Notre Dame on Dec. 3, U-M has successfully killed off 22 consecutive power plays. Over the last five games, the Michigan penalty kill is 33-for-35 (94.3 percent).
Michigan took over first place in the CCHA for the first time this season. The win over BGSU upped U-M's conference record to 10-1-0 (20 points). Ohio State 9-2-1 CCHA, (19 points) falls to second as a result of playing out of conference this weekend.
Michigan improved its home record this season to 7-0-1. The Wolverines have won seven straight games at Yost.
Michigan extended its winning streak over Bowling Green to five games, including playoffs, dating back to March 14, 2003.
Michigan has not allowed a third-period goal in the last six games.
Michigan let in its third shorthanded goal of the season tonight. The other two goals came against Miami (Nov 5) and Wisconsin (Nov 27).
With three assists tonight, Brandon Rogers tied a career high for assists (3) and points (0-3-3) for the second straight game. He had three helpers against Notre Dame on Dec. 4.
Matt Hunwick notched his first career hat trick to set a career high for goals (3) and points (3-0-3). He also set career highs for goals in a season (4). He had one tally as a freshman in 2003-04.
Matt Hunwick had his third multi-point game (3-0-3) this season and his sixth career multi-point game.
The last time a U-M defenseman had a hat trick was on Dec. 28, 2003, when Eric Werner had three scores against Michigan Tech at the Great Lakes Invitational.
On his 19th birthday, T.J. Hensick extended his goal and point streak to three games (4-2-6). He recorded his sixth multi-point game of the season and the 18th of his career with two goals and one assist. His two goals tie a season high as do his three points (2-1-3).
Hensick's first goal of the night gave him the game-winning goal for the second straight game. He is tied for the team lead with two game-winners. He continues to lead U-M in scoring with a 10-12-22 line.
Milan Gajic notched a season-high three points (1-2-3). His two assists tied a season high. He also had his seventh multi-point game this season, which leads the team, and the 27th of his career.
Kevin Porter tied his career-long point streak of three games with a goal tonight. He has a 3-3-6 line during the stretch. He has goals in back-to-back games for the first time of his career.
Mike Brown earned his first assist of the season. It's his first since March 14, 2004, vs. Nebraska-Omaha.
Jeff Tambellini's two assists give him 12 on the season, equalling his total from 2003-04. He also had his sixth multi-point game this season and the 26th in his career.
Andrew Ebbett is on a three-game assist streak with a helper tonight. He is 0-4-4 during the stretch.
Jason Ryznar has a three-game point streak (1-2-3) with an assist tonight.
Chad Kolarik extended his career-long point streak to four games with an assist. He has a 3-3-6 line over that span.
Al Montoya made his 100th appearance in the Michigan net. He has started in every game he has played. His record stands at 68-26-6.
