ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13 University of Michigan women's soccer team went to double overtime for the second time in three days and ended up with a 1-1 draw against No. 21 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3) at the U-M Soccer Field. Freshman Kandice McLaughlin (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real HS) gave the Wolverines the early advantage with a goal in the 35th minute, while sophomore goalkeeper Megan Tuura (Tucker, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic HS) turned in a another strong performance with a career-high 11 saves to help U-M preserve the tie.

Ohio State knotted the score in the 63rd minute on a goal by Lara Dickenmann, as she took a pass in the middle and put it past Tuura into the lower right corner for the equalizer. The Buckeyes nearly put the game away with under seven minutes left, but Dickenmann's shot from outside the box was stopped by Tuura.
Each team had one quality scoring opportunity in the first overtime. Sophomore Katelin Spencer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) took a cross from freshman Melissa Dobbyn (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) and blasted a shot in traffic, but OSU goalkeeper Emily Haynam came up with a big save. Two minutes later, Lisa Grubb's shot at the game-winner grazed the top of the crossbar and went out of play. Ten more minutes of extra time were unable to determine a winner, and each team went to the locker room with another point in the Big Ten standings.
The Wolverines (7-3-2, 4-1-1 Big Ten) begin a stretch of five consecutive road matches with a trip to West Lafayette, Ind., to face Purdue in Big Ten action Friday (Oct. 8) at 3 p.m. EST/CDT.

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On Michigan's performance ... "It was certainly a hard game against a good team. The girls fought hard. Our attack has been pretty stagnate the past two games and I think we need to step it up on the attack."
On U-M's strategy against Ohio State ... "They have one of the premier players in the Big Ten (in Lara Dickenmann). She's hard to handle, so we certainly had to take someone like Jamie (Artsis) out of our attack in order to keep her at bay. I think we need to make better decisions and be more aggressive on our attack. That would have helped us a little bit. But Ohio State is a good team and put us under a lot of pressure."
On the Big Ten race ... "We just have to take care of the rest of our Big Ten games. Penn State is obviously sitting at the top, but they haven't played Ohio State yet. There are a lot of games still to be played and we're certainly not out of the picture by any means."
