ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior captain Adrienne Hortillosa (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista HS) and junior/sophomore Katie Morris (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) tallied a pair of goal apiece to lead the No. 8-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team to its sixth straight win, 4-2 over No. 17 Harvard on Sunday (Oct. 3) at Ocker Field.
With the score knotted 2-2 after the first half, the Wolverines dominated the opening minutes of the second frame to tally a pair of quick back-to-back goals and put themselves ahead for good in the contest. Hortillosa notched the game-winner -- her second goal of the game -- at 36:37 off a U-M corner as junior Lori Hillman (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) and sophomore Kara Lentz (Manchester, Mass./St. Paul's School) each collected a second assist for their supporting efforts.
Morris added an assurance goal just 56 seconds later -- at the 37:33 mark -- as she accepted a pass from across the circle from sophomore Mary Fox (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) to redirect the ball past Harvard goalkeeper Aliaa Remtilla along the left post.
The Wolverines had held the initial lead in the game as Hortillosa scored off an early corner at the 6:54 mark, flicking the ball high to the right side of the Crimson net to beat a sprawling Remtilla, but Harvard stole the lead with a pair of quick back-to-back goals -- coming just 1:31 apart -- by Gretchen Fuller and Shelly Maasdorp.
The Crimson lead was short-lived as Morris registered the equalizer at 16:08 with a goal that mirrored her second-half marker, redirecting a cross pass from sophomore/freshman Eleanor Martin (Anchorage, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) from the left side of the cage.
The Wolverines outshot Harvard 15-5 in the contest, including a 9-1 differential in the second half, and out-cornered the Crimson 8-2. Sophomore Beth Riley (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area HS) made two saves in the winning effort, while Harvard's Remtilla made five stops on U-M's nine shots on goal.
The Wolverines will head to Iowa City, Iowa, for their final two-game road series of the season with contests against Pacific and Iowa next Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the Hawkeyes' Grant Field.
