This Week's Lineup -- vs. California/Ohio State
The No. 9-ranked Wolverines (11-5, 3-1 Big Ten) will conclude the home portion of its 2004 schedule with games against California and Ohio State at Phyllis Ocker Field. On Friday (Oct. 22), Michigan will play its final non-conference match against No. 14 California (12-3, 4-1 NorPac West) at 3 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against Ohio State (8-6, 1-3 Big Ten) on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 2 p.m.
MSU Game to Air on Comcast Local
Comcast Local will air last Saturday's overtime victory against Michigan State (Oct. 16) via tape delay on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. The game can be seen on channel 8 -- by those who have Comcast cable -- in most of Metro Detroit, Channel 18 in the Royal Oak area and channel 98 in the Flint area. Comcast Local is a new network that features local events and entertainment and high school and collegiate sports.
A Senior Moment
The Wolverines will honor its five-member senior class -- fifth-year seniors Kate Dillon and Molly Maloney and fourth-year seniors Jessica Blake, Adrienne Hortillosa and Katy Moyneur -- on Saturday (Oct. 23) before taking on Ohio State in their final home game of the season. Through their U-M careers, the 2004 senior class has compiled a 64-20 mark heading into this weekend's contests and contibuted to two Big Ten regular-season titles and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including the 2001 NCAA championship, the program's first national title and the first national championship by a women's sport in University of Michigan history.
Scouting the Golden Bears
Michigan holds a perfect 3-0 record against California in the all-time series between the two programs. The last time these two teams met -- on Sept. 26, 1999 -- U-M registered a 4-0 shutout as Kelli Gannon notched two first-half goals and an assist to pace the Wolverines to its fourth consecutive win. Scouting the Buckeyes
The Wolverines own a 25-20-1 record against Ohio State and have won 11 of the last 14 meetings. In last season's meeting, the Buckeyes handed U-M its lone regular-season conference loss, beating the Wolverines 2-1 in Columbus, Ohio. Senior Kristi Gannon gave Michigan the initial lead just 1:08 into the contest, but OSU rallied with a pair of second-half goals -- including the game-winner off of a penalty stroke -- to steal away the victory. Statistically Speaking ...
National statistics, compiled by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), are released every Tuesday during the season. Senior Jessica Blake ranks seventh in the nation in goals (17), 12th in goals per game (1.063) and ninth in both points (40) and points per games (2.500). Senior Adrienne Hortillosa also ranks among the national leaders in points with 12th (35) in points and 17th in points per game (2.188) while holding the eighth spot in assists (11) and 14th in assists per game (0.688).
Michigan leads the Big Ten Conference in seven of 12 major statistical categories -- goals (60), goals per game (3.75), points (158), assists (38), assists per game (2.38), shots (296) and penalty corners (125). Individually, senior Adrienne Hortillosa leads the conference in assists, assists per game and game-winning goals (5) while ranking fourth in points and points per game. Senior Jessica Blake holds the second spot in goals, points and points per game while ranking third in goals per game. Lending a Helping Hand
Senior captain Adrienne Hortillosa registered an assist against Maryland (OCt. 17) to bring her career total to 38 helpers during her four seasons at Michigan, giving her sole possession of the third spot on U-M's all-time assists list. Hortillosa needs 18 assists to reach the second position, currently held by Courtney Reid (1997-2000) with 56 career assists. Two-time NFHCA All-American Catherine Foreman (1998-2001) owns the U-M record for most career assists with 61.

Climbing the Charts
With three points against MSU and Maryland, senior captain Adrienne Hortillosa brought her career total points to 100 through her four seasons at Michigan, becoming just the sixth player in program history to achieve the feat. Hortillosa moved into the fifth spot on Michigan's all-time points list, where she is tied with two-time All-American Kristi Gannon (2000-03) and needs seven points to reach the fourth spot, currently held by Julie Flachs (107, 1994-97). Senior Jessica Blake has nearly cracked the top 10 on the list, ranking 11th with 83 career points. She needs four more points to reach the 10th spot, held by Marty Maugh (87, 1979-82).

Iron Women
Senior captain Katy Moyneur (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) has not missed a single game during her four seasons at Michigan, starting all 84 U-M contests during that time. Senior captain Adrienne Hortillosa has also seen action in the Wolverines' 84 games -- with 67 starts -- during her four years. Both seniors rank just outside the top-10 on U-M's career games played list with the 11th spot, just one game shy of No. 10, currently held by Jeanne Shin (85, 1997-2000). On a similar track, junior Lori Hillman (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) has started in 61 consecutive games in her third season at Michigan.

The Goal Rush
Junior/sophomore Katie Morris (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) has registered a goal in six of the Wolverines' last seven games (7-0-14). After entering the season without a career point, Morris currently ranks second on the team in goals (14) and third in points with 51.
Non-Conference Action
U-M will play its final non-conference game of the year on Friday (Oct. 22) when it squares off against California. The Wolverines are 8-4 in non-conference action this season, including a 4-2 mark at Ocker Field.
Free Hits
The Wolverines are 25-2-1 all-time meetings against NorPac teams (7-1 vs. Southwest Missouri State, 6-1 vs. St. Louis, 4-0 vs. Pacific, 4-0 vs. Stanford, 3-0 vs. California, 1-0 vs. Radford). Earlier this season, U-M dealt Pacific a 3-0 loss in Iowa City, Iowa (Oct. 9).
With the Wolverines' 1-0 overtime victory over MSU (Oct. 16), U-M earned a full point in the Pontiac Challenge Cup competition to take a 1.5-0 lead in the fall series.
Michigan improved its all-time record against Michigan State to 30-21-6 and extended its winning streak over its intrastate rival to three games.
The Wolverines have compiled a 6-2 home record this season, outscoring its opponents 30-10 at Ocker Field.
On the Horizon
The Maize and Blue will wrap up the 2004 regular season with a Big Ten Conference match against Penn State at State College, Pa. A final tune up prior to the postseason tournaments, the game is slated for a Noon start at the Nittany Lions' Bigler Field.
