Six Players Earn National and Conference Academic Honors

NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- The American Water Polo Coaches Association and the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced today (June 18) that seniors Delia Sonda (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and Emily Pelino (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS), juniors Julie Nisbet (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) and Rachel Burkons (Van Nuys, Calif./Hardard Westlake HS), sophomore Jineane Shibuya (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid Pacific Institute) and freshman Megan Hausmann (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's HS) have been named to the 2003 All-Academic teams. Michigan's women's water polo team also garnered the academic team award from the AWPCA and the CWPA.
For Sonda and Nisbet, this is their third year on the AWPCA All-Academic team and the second on the CWPA All-Academic team. Burkons was also named to both teams last season. For Hausmann, Pelino and Shibuya it is their first year to earn all-academic recognition.
The AWPCA and CWPA select any starter or major contributor with a GPA of over 3.20 to the All-Academic team. Before 2002, the CWPA only selected from club-level athletes.
