Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Burnett
On the game overall ... "I thought both teams played extremely hard and Charlotte did a nice job of giving us a lot of different looks defensively. Obviously, Jennifer Smith had a phenomenal night, but I want to talk about all the other kids that did a wonderful job of getting her the ball in great position."
On handling Charlotte's full-court pressure ... "I felt out poise against pressure defense was better, not great, but better and we will continue to get better at that aspect of the game."
On the upcoming weekend ... "We continue with a very challenging schedule and this is just one game of three in six days with two tough trips coming this weekend."
U-M Senior Center Jennifer Smith
On scoring a career-best 37 points ... "I thought we did a good job of executing and everybody was doing a great job of feeding the post. I feel very comfortable when they get me the ball on the left block and some of the post passes I was getting were right where they needed to be."
Charlotte Head Coach Kate Meier
On Jennifer Smith ... "First of all, Smith is really good. I thought she was real good on film, but she was even better in person. We did a lot of things to slow her down, like doubling her out of our man-to-man and zone defenses and trying to get her to turn away from her left hand, but she scored regardless of what we threw at her. Her conditioning is what impresses me the most, and you can tell that she is serious about her senior year because she has made great improvement. When our team first arrived at Crisler Arena, Smith was the first player on the floor to shoot around over an hour before the game, and I knew we were in trouble then."
