Michigan Head Coach Joe McFarland
On what he learned from today's duals ... "I saw a lot of things that I liked today, but I also saw things that we definitely need to work on. I think the biggest thing we need to work on is intensity, and we need to continue to work on our conditioning. We need to wrestle a really high pace for seven minutes. I think there are a few individuals that need to step it up a little bit. We've got some young guys in the lineup, and this gave us a good idea of where the guys are. There are a few guys that need to pick up their conditioning. That's what gives you the edge. You always want that on your side, and I didn't feel we had that in all of our matches today."
On 157-pounder Ryan Bertin ... "I was really impressed with the way Bertin handled himself this weekend. He wasn't feeling good all week, but he sucked it up and turned in two solid performances. I like how he was able to mentally put that behind him and focus on wrestling. That's what champs are able to do."
On 184-pounder Joshua Weitzel ... "Josh is going to be a great wrestler here, there is no doubt about it. He's always battling hard. He competes well on the mat, and he knows what he needs to do to win. He's going to continue to get better and better from match to match. I like the way he competes; he's going to be a great one."
Senior/Junior Ryan Bertin
On today's meets ... "It felt good to get out on the mat. It's been a little while, so it felt good to get out there and wrestle. I was nervous coming into today; I had to wrestle two tough opponents. It wasn't my best performance; I definitely felt better in my second match. It's still early in the season; we just want to take it week to week."
Freshman Joshua Weitzel
On earning a fall in his first collegiate dual meet ... "It feels great. Whatever it takes to help Michigan win, I just want to do my part. There was definitely a lot of emotion and a lot of intensity in the crowd. It was a great feeling. It's a whole different atmosphere here; it's something I'm not used to. It was my first time wrestling in college; I had a lot of anxiety before the meet. It helped calm me down a lot."
