DaCosta Wins Two at ITA All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Junior Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team collected a pair of victories at the prestigious 2003 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
DaCosta rebounded in the qualifying singles consolation bracket after suffering an early first-round loss at the hands of Miami's Megan Bradley (6-1, 7-5) on Tuesday (Oct. 7). She defeated Denver's Yanick Dulleros in straight sets, winning the first in the tiebreaker 7-6(5) before cruising to a 6-2 decision in the second set. DaCosta, listed 66th in the ITA's preseason rankings, squared off against Stanford's 86th-ranked Emilia Anderson in her second consolation match and rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
In the consolation quarterfinal round, DaCosta suffered her second loss of the tournament, falling to California's 54th-ranked Catherine Lynch. The Wolverine took the first set, battling to a 7-5 advantage, but dropped the following two sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
DaCosta will join the rest of the U-M women's tennis team this weekend (Oct. 11-13) at the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational in Flushing, N.Y.
