U-M Begins Fall Schedule at William & Mary Invitational

Junior Chrissie Nolan (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South HS) rebounded from a 6-1, 6-3 first-round loss to 73rd-ranked Lara Ercegovic of Temple to finish as the consolation champion of the "Mary" flight. Nolan won a pair of straight-set matches and defeated Minnesota's Angela Buergis in three sets, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-2, in the consolation final.
Sophomore Leanne Rutherford (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) posted a 2-2 record in the "Green" flight to finish in seventh place. Freshman Debra Streifler (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park HS) started her career impressively, tallying a 3-1 singles mark and fifth-place finish in the "Silver" flight. Senior Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./West Hampton Beach HS) had the team's best run through the winners bracket, reaching the semifinals of the "Tribe" flight before finishing with a 3-1 record and third-place showing.
In doubles, Rutherford and sophomore Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) placed seventh in the "A" flight with a 2-2 record. The duo posted an 8-5 upset victory in the seventh-place match over 29th-ranked Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea of Minnesota.
Nolan and junior Kavitha Tipirneni (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) reached the "C" flight final before losing to Maryland's Andrea Fusea and Marta Jedrzejak. The Wolverine tandem started the tournament by winning their first three matches.
