The Wolverines fell behind early, yielding a free kick at the top of their 18-yard box following a whistle for a hand ball in the 12th minute. BYU junior Aleisha Cramer-Rose took the kick, bending the ball around the right side of Michigan's six-person wall. The ball found its mark, as Michigan keeper Suzie Grech (Narberth, Pa./The Shipley School) could not get across the net in time.
Michigan was not without its chances in the first frame, however, as the Wolverines peppered BYU's sophomore goalkeeper with shot after shot. Gott's best save came in the 28th minute after Andrea Kayal's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills HS) corner kick found the head of freshman forward Therese Heaton (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS). Heaton flicked the ball across the mouth of the goal, where Amy Sullivant (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower HS) rocketed a shot through a crowd of defenders. Gott made her way all the way across to goal and, sprawling to her left, knocked the ball away before falling to the ground. In the first frame Michigan had 12 shots and Gott collected all six of her saves.
Stephanie Chavez (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood HS) tied the game at one goal apiece with her header off a Carly Williamson (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) set piece. Following a hard foul against Kayal at midfield, Cougar forward Lydia Ojuka was given a yellow card. On the ensuing free kick Williamson lofted the ball into the box, where it bounced in front of Gott before Chavez was able to redirect it through the keeper's outstretched arms.
The Wolverines continue their non-conference schedule with a home match against Western Michigan on Friday (Sept. 6) at 4 p.m. All home games are played at the U-M Soccer Field.

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Debbie Rademacher
On playing from behind vs. playing with the lead ... "Both games were tough situations. In the first one we were up the whole game and defending that 2-0 lead is a difficult task, especially for that long of a time. Today, for us to come from behind against such a great team was another tough task. We worked hard, which was impressive since it was so hot out. We were able to fight through it and they showed some fatigue."
On Abby Crumpton's game-winning goal ... "That was just a senior making a play. She had enough experience to realize that there was a chance and she made it count."
On Abby Crumpton ... "Every year since her freshman year she's matured more and more. She's become a very tough player."
Senior Forward Abby Crumpton
On her goal ... "I was just glad to be able to put it in. It was a smart play; we were just paying attention and were able to capitalize."
On remaining confident despite BYU's defensive stops in the first half ... "We knew something would eventually happen for us. We were getting some good pressure on them ... a lot of shots, crosses, passes through the box. If we continued to get those kinds of chances, eventually one would go in."
Senior Defender Andrea Kayal
On playing BYU ... "We had heard that they beat Portland over the weekend, so we knew they would be a good team. We never thought of ourselves as favorites, so getting motivated and staying focused wasn't a problem."
On going down 1-0 ... "We knew they were a good team and we would have to fight through. We were getting opportunities all that half, so we knew we would put some away and keep them from scoring again."
