EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Sophomore central forward
Knox Cameron (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman HS) posted his second consecutive two-goal game Monday (Sept. 2) as the University of Michigan men's soccer team defeated Wright State 3-1 in the final match at the Michigan State Invitational. With the win the Wolverines (1-0) pulled within one game of reaching the career .500 mark as the varsity program has complied a record of 17-18-1 in two-plus years.
The Michigan offense came out firing in the first frame, registering seven shots (four on goal) in the first 45 minutes of play. However, Wright State goalkeeper Chris Schiavone was up to the challenge as he turned away all four shots. Likewise, Michigan junior/sophomore keeper
Joe Zawacki (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) turned away each of the three shots he faced in the first frame as the half ended with the score knotted at 0-0.
With the game still scoreless in the 61st minute of play, Wright State's Ricky Strong gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead at 60:20 off an assist from Winston Marshall. The Wolverines answered just seven minutes later when freshman defender Chris Glinski (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) scored his first collegiate goal at 67:16 with an assist from fellow freshman Adam Bruh (Roselyn, N.Y./Wheatley HS).
Cameron then gave the Maize and Blue its first lead of the early 2002 season when he netted his third of the season, with an assist from junior tri-captain Mike White (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) at 78:02. White and Cameron gave the Wolverines a two-goal cushion at 82:46 when the two connected for the second time in the match, giving Cameron his second straight two-goal game.
The Wolverines go for their third consecutive home-opening victory this Friday (Sept. 7) when they match up with the Jaguars of IUPUI at 6 p.m. on Elbel Field.

N O T E S
With two goals in the first two games of the season, Knox Cameron is only one goal behind the U-M single-season goal-scoring record of five. Three players are tied at the top of the list, with Cameron being one of them, having accomplished the feat last year as a freshman. The other two Wolverines with five-goal seasons are Tom Gritter (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Jody Keeling, who did so in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
Cameron's two goals give him nine for his career and extend his all-time goals scored lead to three over junior defender Kevin Taylor (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Preparatory), who is currently in second place with six.
With his third assist in only his second match with the Wolverines, Adam Bruh became the fastest Michigan men's soccer player to register three assists in the program's three-year history. Contact: Gene Skidmore (734) 763-4423
