DaCosta Drops Quarterfinal at Regional Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- University of Michigan sophomore women's tennis players Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) was eliminated during quarterfinal competition of the 2002 ITA/Omni Hotels Midwest Regional Championships today (Monday, Oct. 28) at the MSU Tennis Facility.

DaCosta, the team's top finisher with a 3-1 record, lost a 6-4, 7-6(4) quarterfinal match to No. 7 seed Jessica Rush of Northwestern. DaCosta reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory against fourth-seeded Melissa Iqbal of Purdue after starting the tournament with victories against Indiana's Sarah Batty (6-1, 6-4) and DePaul's Marina Parashkovova (6-1, 6-4).

The Wolverines have completed their fall slate of matches. U-M opens the spring season Jan. 10-12 when it hosts the Michigan Invitational. Teams set to compete in the event are Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Louisiana State and Wisconsin.
