BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team defeated Indiana by a count of 5-0 on Friday night (Oct. 18) to extend its winning streak to 12 games. Junior defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) tied a career high with four goals -- three in the first half -- to help Michigan remain undefeated in Big Ten play. Goalkeeper Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) only had to make one save in the contest to record her seventh shutout of the season.

The Wolverines earned 12 shots and four penalty corners in the first half while denying Indiana of any penalty corner opportunities and allowing only two shots. Indiana was able to get off its lone shot on goal in the first half.
The second half saw much of the same, as the Wolverines came out quickly with a goal from junior forward/midfielder Laura Woitkewitsch (Cologne, Germany/Fredrich-Wilhelm) just 4:14 into the half. Junior forward April Fronzoni (Larkville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) moved the ball around the opposing goaltender to find an open Woitkewitsch, who put home her second goal of the season.
Woitkewitsch assisted Gannon on the final goal of the game just 1:13 later to give Gannon her four-goal accomplishment and earn Woitkewitsch her second career multi-point game. In the second half, Michigan notched 13 shots and five penalty corners while limiting the Hoosiers to two shots and one penalty corner.
Michigan will return to action Sunday (Oct. 20), hosting Northwestern in its final regular-season home game at 1 p.m. at Ocker Field. The Wolverines will honor their three seniors -- Krista Meckley (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern HS), Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) and Jessica Rose (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) -- prior to the game.
