Last Week
The Wolverines played two games at home, where they lost 2-1 to Kentucky (Sept. 7) and shut out Dayton 1-0 (Sept. 9). Against Kentucky the Wolverines scored first when freshman Kate Morgan (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) put the ball past Wildcat goalkeeper Beth Wells. Kentucky then tied it up late in the first half as Kathy Fulk scored unassisted. The Wolverines had the momentum and control of the offense for most of the second half, but could not score again after Kentucky's early second-half goal.
Sunday's matchup against the Flyers saw U-M get its first win of the season, despite heavy rains and a game delay due to lightning. The Wolverines scored the game's lone goal midway through the first half on a header by Andrea Kayal (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills HS). The Flyers came out strong after the half, with 11 shots to the Wolverines' four, but U-M held off the late attack for the 1-0 win.
Sullivant's Streak
Amy Sullivant (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower HS) has recorded at least one point in each of the Wolverines' four games this season. Sullivant has already surpassed her point total from last season (6). Sullivant's scoring streak:
| Opponent | Goals | Assists | Points |
| Loyola Marymount | 2 | 0 | 4 |
| Cal | 1 | 0 | 2 |
| Kentucky | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Dayton | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| Totals | 3 | 2 | 8 |
Wolverine Firsts
Kate Morgan got her first goal as a Wolverine against Kentucky (Sept. 7). Juniors Carly Williamson (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) and Amy Sullivant assisted Morgan on the play. The assist was Williamson's first of the season. Goalkeeper Suzie Grech (Narbeth, Pa./The Shipley School) recorded her first shutout of the season in U-M's 1-0 win over Dayton (Sept. 9).
Lightning Strikes
Sunday's game against Dayton saw a steady downpour and a 15-minute delay of game due to lightning. The last time the Wolverines experienced a delay of game due to bad weather was at Northwestern (10/18/96) in a game U-M won 2-0. The Wolverines are 2-0, with two shutouts, in games delayed by lightning.
Deja Vu
Last season the Wolverines started out 0-3 with two losses on the road and one at home, before winning their first game of the season in their second game at home. U-M has started out the 2001 season in similar fashion, dropping two road games and its season home opener before winning against Dayton in its second game at home. Last year the Wolverines finished third in the Big Ten and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Juniors Lead the Way
So far this season the Wolverines' junior class has led the way for Michigan. U-M has gotten 13 of its 17 points from the upperclassmen.
