Ouellet Ends Career at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- In her first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance, senior Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/LaSalle SS) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team finished ninth in the second heat and 17th overall in the 1,500-meter run today (Thursday, May 31) at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. Ouellet's time of 4:28.95 was not fast enough to qualify her for the finals on Saturday.
Ouellet was attempting to join Cathy Schmidt (1985-86) and Sue Foster (1980-83) as the only Wolverines to garner All-America status in the 1,500-meter run. Schmidt was the last to accomplish the feat, in 1986, while Foster claimed the title twice, in 1982 and 1983.
Junior Katie Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS) will compete in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday (June 2) at 7 p.m. PDT to conclude the 2001 track season.
Complete results are available at the NCAA Championships site.
