U-M Posts Shutout of Bowling Green in Home Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis squad ended a six-match losing streak Thursday afternoon (March 22), posting a 7-0 shutout against Bowling Green at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines (6-6) swept all three doubles matches and the six singles contests in straight sets for the win.
Michigan gained a 1-0 advantage in the match with a pair of 8-5 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots. The doubles sweep was completed with an 8-4 victory by junior co-captain Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) and sophomore Chris Shaya (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Saddlebrook Academy, Fla.) at the top doubles spot.
The Wolverines breezed through the six singles without dropping a set. Beam and junior Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) won first-set tie-breakers in their matches at No. 1 and No. 2, and finished off their victories in impressive fashion. Juniors Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) and Greg Novak (Stoney Brook, Ontario/Cardinal Newman HS) as well as freshmen Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) and Brett Baudinet (Auckland, New Zealand/King's College) polished off the team victory with dominating wins at the final four singles slots.
Michigan returns to Big Ten Conference dual match action Saturday afternoon (March 24, noon CST) at Illinois. The match against the No. 12-ranked Fighting Illini will be played at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill.
