This Week
The No. 20 ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team (11-6-1, 8-2 Big Ten) travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Big Ten Conference Tournament (Nov. 8-11). The No. 2-seeded Wolverines finished the regular season in second place (24 points) and will face off against the No. 7-seeded Michigan State Spartans in the quarterfinal round on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 1:45 p.m. at the East Field at Purdue University's Varsity Soccer Complex. The semifinals are played on Friday (Nov. 9) and the championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 11). The championship teams receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. U-M is looking for its third Big Ten title in five years (1997, '99).
Scouting the Opponents (Quarterfinals/Semifinals)
Michigan State -- The No. 7 -seeded Spartans finished the regular season with a 9-7-2 overall record and a 4-5-1 record in the Big Ten. Michigan leads the series with a 6-2-1 record which includes U-M's 2-1 win at home on Oct. 26. Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) scored both goals for the Wolverines in the second half for Michigan's only come-from-behind win of the season. Illinois -- The University of Illinois Fighting Illini come into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 10-6-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 record in conference play. Michigan dropped its regular-season match against the Fighting Illini (Sept. 21), 2-1 in overtime in Champaign, Ill. U-M leads the all-time series 5-1. Iowa -- The Hawkeyes are the No. 6 seed. They finished the season with a 8-9-1 record and a 4-5-1 record in the Big Ten. U-M defeated the Hawkeyes 1-0 in Iowa City, Iowa (Sept. 23) with Andrea Kayal (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills HS) scoring the lone goal. The win marked the first of four straight shutouts for U-M. Michigan Against the Rest of the Field
Penn State -- The Wolverines and the No. 1-seeded Nittany Lions could meet up for the 13th time in the series history. U-M lost to Penn State 6-2 (Oct. 7) and trails the all-time series 3-7-3, but is tied 1-1 with the Nittany Lions in Big Ten Tournament championship games. (U-M defeated PSU in 1999 for its second Big Ten Tournament championship win, but lost last season 1-0 in triple overtime in the final game.) PSU won the regular-season title with an 8-1-1 Big Ten record and is14-3-1 overall. PSU lost 2-1 to Ohio State, which U-M defeated 4-0 in Columbus, Ohio (Oct. 5).
Ohio State -- The No. 4-seeded Buckeyes could meet up with the Wolverines for the 10th time in series history. U-M defeated OSU 4-0 earlier this season (Oct. 5) in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes finished the regular season with a 9-6-1 overall record and a 5-4-1 record in the Big Ten.
Purdue -- The No. 5 seed and host school for the tournament finished the season with a 10-5-3 overall record and a 4-3-3 mark in the Big Ten. Michigan is 3-0 against the Boilermakers all-time. U-M defeated Purdue 1-0 this season at home (Oct. 14). Purdue is undefeated in its last six games (4-0-2).
Northwestern -- The Wildcats are the No. 8 seed for the tournament, finishing the season 8-9-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the Big Ten. U-M shut out the Wildcats 2-0 at home on Sept. 28 and leads the all-time series 7-2-1. In 1997, the Wolverines defeated the Wildcats 1-0 in overtime at Minnesota (Nov. 7-9) for their first Big Ten championship title.
Michigan at the Big Ten Tournament
U-M is 11-5 all-time at the Big Ten Tournament, having won the title game in 1997 over Northwestern (1-0 OT) and again in 1999 over Penn State (4-2). The Wolverines have played in the title game three of the last four years and are 9-2 in the last four tournaments.

Last Week
The Wolverines finished the regular-season schedule with a 2-0 shutout, their 10th of the season, over the Western Michigan Broncos at home (Nov. 3). U-M dominated the Broncos through the entire match, with the Wolverine defense allowing just six shots. Amy Sullivant (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower HS) and Abby Crumpton scored for their fifth and 10th goals of the season, respectively, while goalkeeper Suzie Grech (Narbeth, Pa./The Shipley School) made three saves.
Wolverine Magazine
Carly Williamson (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) will be featured on this week's "Wolverine Sports Magazine" for her ability on the field as well as in the classroom. Williamson, a graphic design major, will feature some of her work and talk about the success of this year's team at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 7) on Fox Sports Detroit. A replay will air on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
Streaking Wolverines
Abby Crumpton is on a three-game goal-scoring streak, the first of her career, that began during U-M's match against Michigan State (Oct. 26). Crumpton leads the team with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points.
Wolverines in the Big Ten
Abby Crumpton is ranked seventh in the Big Ten in shots (57), fourth in shots per game (3.56), sixth in points (22), fourth in points per game (1.38) and is tied for fourth in goals (10). Amy Sullivant is ranked 10th in shots (50), tied for sixth in assists (6) and is tied for sixth in assists per game (0.33). Suzie Grech is ranked first in shutouts (9), is fifth in saves (70), fifth in saves per game (4.67) and third in goals-against average (0.89).
Offensive Defenders
Amy Sullivant recorded five shots against Western Michigan (Nov. 3) for the third time this season and tied her career high for shots on goal with three. Sullivant leads all Wolverine defenders with 51 shots and is second on the team in scoring with 16 points.
Scoring First Equals Winning
Michigan is 10-1 when scoring the first goal of the match. The only loss was at Illinois (Sept. 21, where the Wolverines lost 2-1 in overtime. Against Michigan State (Oct. 26), U-M recorded its only come-from-behind win of the season 2-1 at home.
Suzie Still Shutting Out
Suzie Grech recorded her ninth shutout of the season in U-M's 2-0 blanking of Western Michigan (Nov. 3). Grech hasn't allowed a goal in 437:48 minutes, dating back to the Indiana game (Oct. 12). Grech's previous longest shutout streak of the season was 403:41, which began at Iowa (Sept. 23) and was halted at Penn State (Oct. 7).
Suzie Shutout
Suzie Grech's shutout over Western Michigan extended her single-season shutout record to nine games. The 2-0 win gave the Wolverines their 10th shutout of the season, putting them one shutout away from tying the all-time single-season shutout record (11, 1997).
World Cup Qualifier
Suzie Grech recently traveled with the Spanish National Team to Moscow, Russia, for one of six World Cup qualifying matches. Spain was shut out by the Russians 2-0 (Oct. 28). Grech faced 10 shots and made four saves in the match. Grech's performance was her ninth with the Spain National Team and the second of six games that she will play in net for them.
Out-Everything
Michigan has out-scored (33-22) and out-shot (265-213) its opponents. The Wolverines also lead their opponents in assists (23-17), points (89-61), shot percentage (.125-.103), shots on goal (128-99) and shots on goal percentage (.483-.465).
Home Field Advantage
U-M set a school record of nine home wins with its 2-0 shutout over Western Michigan. The previous mark of eight was set in 1997 and in 1999, years the Wolverines were Big Ten Tournament champions.
Baby Bits
Head coach Debbie Rademacher and her husband, Rob, gave birth to their first child, Luke Joseph (5 pounds, 4 ounces), at 7:59 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 31).
NCAA Selection Show
The NCAA Tournament selection show is on at 3 p.m. on Nov. 12. The show will air live on Fox Sports South and Fox Sports New England. The satellite coordinates are C Band, Telstar 5 and Transponder 23.
In the Rankings
Michigan moved up in the rankings again this week to the No. 20 spot in the latest NSCAA coaches poll (Nov. 5), marking the fourth consecutive week the Wolverines have been ranked and the third week in a row U-M has moved up in the rankings. Also ranked from the Big Ten is No. 7 Penn State, while Ohio State received votes.
