DAVISON, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team competed in its annual intrasquad meet on Wednesday (Nov. 21) at Davison High School to determine its starters for the 2001-02 season.

A.J. Grant (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) earned an 18-9 major decision over Shaun Newton (Davison, Mich./Davison HS) at 125 pounds, while 133-pounder Foley Dowd (Howell, N.J./The Peddie School) defeated Nick Velissaris (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North HS) and 149-pounder Mike Kulczycki (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Edward HS) won over Jeremiah Tobias (Grass Lake, Mich./Manchester HS) with a 16-8 major decision and a 25-10 technical fall, respectively.

In the middleweight division, redshirt freshman 157-pounder Ryan Bertin (Broadview Heights, Ohio/St. Edward HS) decisioned Pat Owen (Polson, Mont./Polson HS), 3-1. At 165 pounds, Charles Martelli (Naperville, Ill./North HS) recorded a 7-4 decision over Dan Seder (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) and 174-pounder Otto Olson (Everett, Wash./Everett HS) recorded an 18-2 technical fall over David Felger (Iron Mountain, Mich./West Iron County HS).

Andy Hrovat (Gates Mills, Ohio/St. Edward HS) recorded a 7-6 decision over freshman William Breyer (Oxford, Mich./Oxford HS) in the 184Cpound class, while 197-pounder Kyle Smith (Butte, Mont./Butte HS) earned a 15-5 major decision over Steve Heleniak (Franklin, Mass./Franklin HS). At heavyweight, Matt Brink (Muskegon, Mich./Fruitport HS) defeated freshman Greg Wagner (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider HS), 8-2.
