Wolverines in Madison
With today's 20-17 victory at Wisconsin, the Michigan football team has won three straight games at Camp Randall Stadium. The Wolverines have compiled a 19-3-1 all-time record at Camp Randall Stadium and are 21-8-1 in Madison. U-M has claimed victories in 14 of the last 16 games and 28 of the last 31 matchups.
U-M on Artificial Surface
The victory by Michigan ended a two-game losing streak this year on artificial turf. The Wolverine have a 181-36-5 record on artificial turf since 1969.
Carr Remains Unbeaten Against Badgers
With the 20-17 win over Wisconsin, head coach Lloyd Carr improved to 5-0 all-time against the Badgers. He has compiled a 3-0 record at Camp Randall Stadium.
Dynamic Rushing Duo
The Wolverines continued to run the ball with authority for the second straight week, with junior B.J. Askew (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain HS) and sophomore Chris Perry (Advance, N.C./Fork Union Military, Va.) sharing the work. Askew rushed 16 times for 58 yards and Perry added 13 carries for 53 yards. The team rushed 38 times for 105 yards and was kept without a rushing touchdown for the first time this year.
Punt Block Specialists
The Wolverines' punt block squad came through with another key play against Wisconsin, scoring on a block and 43-yard return by freshman cornerback Marlin Jackson (Sharon, Pa./Sharon HS). U-M has blocked six punts this season, with each of the first five blocks coming by a different player. The Wolverines have scored two touchdowns on blocked punts this year and all but one of the six blocks have led directly to touchdowns (fake field at Penn State, field goal vs. Wisconsin). The Michigan season record for blocked punts is seven set during the 1950 season, with the six this year ranking second.
Dubuc Finds End Zone
The only offensive player on the U-M roster from Canada, junior tight end Deitan Dubuc (Fabreville, Ontario/Vieux Montreal) caught his first career touchdown on a one-yard pass from John Navarre (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy HS) with 36 second remaining in the first quarter. Dubuc has three receptions for 28 yards this season and has four career receptions for 51 yards.
Wolverines Sack Record
With three sacks at Wisconsin, the Wolverines inched closer to the Michigan record of 46 sacks in a season (set during the 1992 campaign). The Big Ten and national leader, Michigan has 45 sacks on the year and has had 13 different players record sacks this season.
Walker Reaches 1,000 Receiving Yards
Senior wide receiver Marquise Walker (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger HS) continued his stellar final season by catching four passes for 24 yards at Wisconsin, and he added a key blocked punt that the Wolverines turned into a field goal. Walker has a career-best 66 receptions for 893 yards and nine touchdowns this season, and needs five receptions to catch Anthony Carter (1979-82) for the school reception record of 161. Walker has 156 career receptions for 2,019 yards and 15 touchdowns, and has caught at least one pass in a Michigan school-record 34 consecutive games.
Balanced Defensive Effort
Senior/junior outside linebacker Victor Hobson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep, Pa.) led the balanced defensive effort against Wisconsin, recording eight tackles. Junior safety Charles Drake (Los Angeles, Calif./Westchester HS) and fifth-year senior inside linebacker Eric Brackins (Pigeon Forge, Tenn./Gatlinburg-Pittman HS) added seven stops each, while senior inside linebacker Larry Foote (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) contributed six tackles.
