The Wolverines tallied a team score of 306 Sunday and started the second round, but play was suspended due to inclement weather and scheduled to be completed Monday, followed by the third and final round. Michigan finished the second round with a team total of 305 and sat in a three-way tie for ninth place at that point, but the Wolverines did not start the third round because they would not have finished in time to make their 4 p.m. flight.
Sophomore David Nichols (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) was in ninth place after two rounds with his 148 total (73-75). Other scores for the Maize and Blue were: senior Andrew Chapman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) 77 and 75; senior Andy Matthews (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS), 78 and 77; redshirt sophomore Scott Carlton (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS), back-to-back 78s; and senior Kyle Kilcherman (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS), 80 and 81.
Michigan added the Duke Golf Classic to their schedule after Minnesota's PSI Net Collegiate Invitational, scheduled for Sept. 17-18, was cancelled due to the national tragedies of Sept. 11.
The Wolverines will close out their fall season with a trip to Jamaica, N.Y., to play in the Tillinghast Invitational, Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 22-23) at Quaker Ridge Golf Club.
