Williams' Double Victory Highlights Simmons Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team hosted the 21st annual Red Simmons Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 20) at the U-M Track Building. Freshman Adrena Williams (Berkeley, Calif./James Logan HS) held the spotlight on the day with two victories in the non-scoring meet. Williams won both the 60- and 200-meter dashes with times of 7.57 and 25.32, respectively.
Michigan won five of the events on the day, all of which came on the track, including the lone relay of the day. Junior Ursula Taylor (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg HS) was victorious in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:35.05. Joining Taylor atop the leader board in her own event was junior Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS), who took the 60-meter low hurdles in a time of 8.87.
The Wolverines dominated in the 1,600-meter relay, finishing ahead of Eastern Michigan by almost five seconds (3:51.94).
The Wolverines will continue their season next Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Michigan Intercollegiate in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Adrena Williams' double victory marks the first time in her career that she achieved such a goal.
Ursula Taylor had a personal best with her time of 1:35.05 in the 600-meter run. Her win in the 600 was her second individual victory of the season, as she won the 800 at the Jack Harvey Invitational (Jan. 6).
Using a season best in the 60-meter low hurdles (8.87), Tasha Phillips won her second title in that event this season. She won the hurdles at the Jack Harvey Invitational (8.96) as well.
