U-M Wins Fourth Straight Michigan Intercollegiate Title

Senior Regine Caruthers (Inglewood, Calif./St. Bernard HS) and sophomore Carly Knazze (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) each bettered the Jack Skoog Building 400-meter dash record as the two took the top spots, with Caruthers' time of 56.25 leading the way. The other record that the Wolverines now claim came in the 1,600-meter relay, in which the Maize and Blue edged out Eastern Michigan to take the crown in a time of 3:49.53.
Michigan's long-distance runners shined all day as the Wolverines took first and third in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs. Katie Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) blew away the field by over eight seconds (9:54.52) in the 3,000, with teammate Jane Martineau (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant HS) placing third in her hometown. In the 5,000, Katy Radkewich (Hudson, Ohio/Beaumont HS) and Katie Easton (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) finished first and third, respectively.
For the second week in a row and third time this season, junior Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS) won the 60-meter low hurdles, tying her personal best with a time of 8.87.
Teyonna Simpson (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose HS) was victorious in the triple jump with a mark of 38-11. The Wolverines took second in the high jump with Nicole DeNamur's (Algoma, Wis./Algoma HS) season best of 5-7 3/4. Freshman Melissa Bickett (Akron, Ohio/Revere HS) placed runner-up in the shot put with a personal best, followed by teammate April Phillips (Fraser, Mich./Fraser HS) in third.
Up next for the Wolverines is a trip back to Mt. Pleasant for the Central Michigan Invitational next Saturday (Feb. 3), starting at noon.
