Beam Named Big Ten Conference Co-Player of Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan sophomore Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) received recognition from the Big Ten Conference as the men's tennis co-Player of the Week. Beam shares the award with Indiana University senior George McGill.
Earning his first Big Ten Conference Player of the Week honor, Beam has been a dominant performer for the Wolverines in singles. He leads the squad in every major statistical category, boasting a 15-2 dual match record and a 6-2 mark against Big Ten Conference opponents (has won six straight conference matches). He leads the team in overall wins (23-7), winning percentage (.767), dual wins (15), dual match winning percentage (.882), regional victories (16-5) and conference wins (six). Beam is in the midst of a seven-match winning streak and needs a pair of victories to reach 45 career singles wins (43-22 career record).

In doubles action, Beam has an 8-8 overall record this season, and has teamed with both senior Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) and freshman Chris Shaya (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Saddlebrook Academy-Fla.) to post a 7-5 dual match record at the No. 3 spot. Beam has compiled a 14-14 doubles record in his career.
Beam leads the No. 22-ranked Wolverines into this weekend's final regular-season matches at Ohio State (Saturday, April 22, 1 p.m.) and Penn State (Sunday, April 23, noon).
