This Week for Michigan
The sixth-ranked Wolverines open their spring season with the ACC-Big Ten Double Dual at Lake Wheeler, just south of Raleigh, N.C. The regatta will pit Michigan and Ohio State of the Big Ten Conference against Atlantic Coast Conference foes North Carolina and No. 2 Virginia. The University of Central Florida of the Trans Atlantic Athletic Conference is also rowing in the meet. Michigan will not race head-to-head with the Buckeyes in the competition.
The Schedule
The morning portion of the competion starts at 8 a.m. and features the Wolverines against North Carolina and Central Florida. The varsity eight rows first, followed by the second varsity eight at 8:30 a.m. and the novice eight at 10:15 a.m. In the afternoon portion of the race, Michigan faces No. 2 Virginia starting with the first varsity eight at 11 a.m. The second varsity eight rows at 11:30 a.m., the varsity four rows at noon and the novice eight race starts at 12:30 p.m.
The Forecast
Raleigh is projected to have a high of about 74 degrees on Saturday and a low of 50 degrees. The skies should be partly cloudy with little wind.
Last Year at the ACC-Big Ten Double Dual
Michigan faced North Carolina and Virginia in Columbus, Ohio, last year (April 3) and came away with mixed results. The Wolverines defeated then-No. 17 North Carolina in each NCAA race (IV8, IIV8 and V4), but could not overcome the Caviliers, ranked No. 2 at the time, in any of the events.
Michigan in the Polls
Michigan's crew is ranked sixth in the preseason USRowing National Collegiate Rowing Coaches Poll (Feb. 16). Brown University, the defending national champion, is ranked No. 1.
