Michigan Women's Tennis Sweeps North Carolina State

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team ran its record to 4-0 by sweeping North Carolina State 9-0 Friday night (Feb. 11) at the N.C. State Tennis Complex. The 4-0 start by the Wolverines equals their start since 1996-97, a year that ended with the program's first-ever Big Ten Conference title.

Michigan raised out to a 6-0 lead and clinched the match by sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. Senior co-captain Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) beat Francie Barragan 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot for her team-leading 12th win of the season. Junior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium) and freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) collected their 10th wins of the season at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

Freshman Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach HS), sophomore Jen Vaughn (Jefferson City, Mo./Lawrence HS) and junior Alison Sinclair (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS) followed with victories at the lower three singles spots.

In doubles, Michigan earned a sweep and three team points to finish with a 9-0 match victory. Senior co-captain Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) returned to the lineup for the first time in more than three months (strained stomach muscle), teaming with Hart for an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot. Duprez and Vaughn moved down from No. 1 to No. 2 in the doubles lineup and won a 9-7 decision against N.C. State's Francie Barragan and Loni Worsley. Senior Erryn Weggenman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Musgrove posted an 8-0 shutout over Kristen Nicholls and Landis Strader at the No. 3 spot.

The Wolverines return to action on Sunday, Feb. 20, hosting Kentucky at the Varsity Tennis Center (1 p.m.).
