ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After another stellar season at the helm of the University of Michigan field hockey team, head coach Marcia Pankratz was named the Dita/National Field Hockey Coaches Association West Regional Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Pankratz led the Wolverines to a record of 19-4 overall and 6-0 in the Big Ten Conference. She received her second Big Ten Coach of the Year award after leading the Wolverines to their second straight Big Ten Conference tournament title and the school's second -- and first outright -- Big Ten regular-season crown.

This past season, Pankratz became U-M's all-time leader in coaching victories with 77, surpassing Patti Smith's (1989-95) record of 74. After leading the Maize and Blue to a national runner-up finish -- in its first-ever NCAA appearance -- in 1999, Pankratz guided the Wolverines back to the NCAA tournament in 2000. Michigan defeated William & Mary 3-2 in double overtime and bowed out to the region's top seed, Wake Forest, 3-2 in overtime in the regional final.
Pankratz's is one five finalists for the 2000 Dita/NFHCA Division I National Coach of the Year award, which will be announced at the NFHCA Awards Luncheon on Jan. 13, 2001, in King of Prussia, Pa.
