U-M Women Tankers Place Seventh at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team completed the final day of competition at the Texas Invitational on Sunday (Dec. 3). Michigan finished seventh out of 14 teams, scoring 362 team points during the three-day meet. No. 2 UCLA placed first, scoring 553.5 team points, with No. 4 Stanford close behind at 529.5.
U-M was led by the duo of sophomore Erin Abbey (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield HS) and junior Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Both swimmers posted NCAA consideration times, as Abbey finished in 1:59.71 while Carlberg clocked in at 1:59.85.
Also scoring a top-eight finish was sophomore Traci Valasco (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS), who placed ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA consideration time of 2:14.51.
In relay events, U-M was led by the 400-yard freestyle team of 2000 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Samantha Arsenault (Peabody, Mass./Gardner HS), senior All-American Jennifer Crisman (Hudsonville, Mich./Jenison HS), freshman Annie Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) and sophomore All-American Laura Kaznecki (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Western HS), who finished sixth at 3:25.54.
Coach Jim Richardson's Wolverine squad travels to Hawaii for winter training and a meet against Texas A&M on Wednesday, Dec 27.
