WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 5 University of Michigan field hockey team went down to fourth-ranked Wake Forest 2-0 on Saturday (Oct. 14) at Kentner Stadium. The Wolverines lost the contest despite outshooting the Demon Deacons 15-13.
Wake Forest's Jemima Cameron broke the defensive battle at 4:02 of the first half to break the scoreless tie. The Wolverine defense let its guard down and WFU capitalized with 27 seconds left in the first to take the game to 2-0.
Michigan goalkeeper Maureen Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) played solid in goal, stopping seven shots in the losing effort. The second half saw the two teams going at each other on both ends, but neither team was able to score and ended the game at 2-0.
The Wolverines (14-3, 4-0 Big Ten) will travel to State College, Pa., to take the sixth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday (Oct. 20). Both team are undefeated in the Big Ten, and the winner will control its destiny for the Big Ten regular-season title.
