Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles contests. Senior co-captains John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and Brad McFarlane (Kingston, Ontario/Bayridge Secondary HS) started things for the Wolverines with a commanding 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot. Senior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) and sophomore Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) secured the team point by beating John Cheregi and Andreas Murfiadakis by an 8-5 score at the No. 1 spot. DePaul prevented a Michigan sweep as Robert Kurek and Maciek Jozwiak beat senior Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) and sophomore Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) by a 9-7 score.
The Wolverines won all six singles matches for the first time this season and have now lost only one singles match (11 of 12 on the year) in their two dual matches. Wright, Long, Cox and Nano were straight-set winners, while McCain and sophomore Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) won three-set matches.
Michigan returns to the hardcourt Feb. 11-13 at the Great Northwest Shoot-out in Seattle, Wash.
