The game was scoreless for nearly 30 minutes when Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) ended the drought, opening the door for three U-M first-half goals. Gannon, Michigan's offensive leader on the season with eight goals, scored twice for the Maize and Blue, with both goals coming of penalty-corner plays.
Also scoring for the Wolverines were Jessie Veith (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) and Ashley Reichenbach (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra HS). Reichenbach scored her second goal of the season and of her career on a penalty shot nearly eight minutes into the second half.
The Maize and Blue recorded its third victory in as many games over Cal, earning its 10th consecutive victory over schools from the state of California (seven shutouts). Additionally, the Wolverines outshot the Golden Bears 25-3 and earned 19 penalty corners to Cal's one.
Wolverine goalkeepers Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) and Maureen Tasch (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) each made three saves in the shared shutout. With the half shutout, Oakes now holds fifth place all-time on the Michigan career shutout list with 11.
