All-America candidate Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) scored her fifth goal -- and second game-winner -- of the season off a penalty corner with 7:10 remaining. Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon HS) recorded her sixth assist of the season, with Erica Widder (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) also assisting on the goal.
The Maize and Blue outshot the Spartans 7-1 and had nine penalty corners to two for MSU. Gannon led the way with four shots on goal. Michigan goalkeeper Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) made one save in recording her first shutout of the season. She now has 10.5 career shutouts, tying her with Gillian Pieper (1986-88) for fifth on U-M's all-time list.
Michigan will take a break from conference play and open its home schedule with back-to-back home contests against Ohio (Sept. 25, 1 p.m.) and California (Sept. 26, noon) at Ocker Field.
