U-M Closes Fall at ITA Midwest Regional Championship

Senior Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) reached the quarterfinals of the main draw and finished with a 3-1 tournament record. Hart won back-to-back three-set matches to open the regional, beating Western Michigan's Larissa Chinwah (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and Iowa's Natalya Dawaf (3-6, 6-3, 6-2), and followed with a straight-set win over Indiana's Jessica Anderson (6-4, 6-3) in the third round. Hart lost a hard-fought three-set match in the quarterfinals to Northwestern's Katherine Nasser (7-6, 3-6, 6-2).
Junior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium) posted a 1-2 mark in the main draw singles. She lost in the first round to Iowa's Shera Weigler (6-4, 6-1) but rebounded for a three-set win over Ball State's Gena Tranquada (7-6, 4-6, 6-3) in the consolation bracket. Fuzesi lost a hard-fought three-set match to Western Michigan's Cyra Malik (6-7, 7-6, 6-3) in second-round consolation action.
Freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) reached the third round of qualifying action before losing to Ohio State's Monica Rincon (6-0, 6-3). Musgrove collected a 2-1 record as she won her first two matches against Butler's Olivia Pedro (6-2, 6-0) and Ball State's Lynsey Fick (6-2, 6-2).
Junior Alison Sinclair (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS), sophomore Jen Vaughn (Jefferson City, Mo./Lawrence HS) and freshman Jennifer Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./West Hampton Beach HS) split two matches each in singles qualifying action.
