Golden Fifties
David Terrell (Richmond, Va./Huguenot) made five receptions in the game to reach 53 receptions this season. He is the ninth receiver to reach the 50-catch plateau in a season. He scored his fifth touchdown for the season on a pass from Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS) in the first quarter to put the Wolverines up 6-0. Terrell also made the first interception of his career, had a pass break-up and was named Player of the Game by ESPN Plus.
Career High
Tom Brady tallied his 27th touchdown pass of his career with a pass to Terrell to open the scoring for the day. The touchdown pass also marked Brady's 14th straight Big Ten Conference game with a touchdown pass. Brady reached a career high with three touchdown passes in a single game. The third touchdown came on an 11-yard pass to Bennie Joppru (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka HS) to put the Wolverines up 33-0 in the third quarter. Brady passes John Wangler on the Michigan all-time career passes thrown list to put himself at seventh with 27 touchdowns.
"34 for 33 for 32"
Anthony Thomas (Winnfield, La./Winnfield HS), who wears No. 32, has 34 rushing touchdowns in 33 games career games. His 33rd touchdown was a 60-yard score in the second quarter that put the Wolverines up 19-0. Thomas also scored his 34th career touchdown -- 14th this season -- on a one-yard run in the second quarter to put Michigan up 26-0. Thomas' two rushing touchdowns of the game ties him with Rick Leach for second on the Michigan all-time career rushing touchdown list.
Rushing Thomas
Anthony Thomas is the first player to reach the 1,000-yard plateau in a single season since Tshimanga Biakabatuka went for a single-season Michigan-record 1,818 yards in 1995. Thomas' 26-yard run in the third quarter pushed his career tally to 1,005 yards. Thomas has gone over the 100-yard mark in five games this season and for the first time in his career has had three consecutive 100-yard plus games.
Michigan Team Rushing
Michigan's 223 rushing yards gives it a new season best for the second consecutive week. Michigan set its team season high with 213 vs. Indiana (Oct. 30) but surpassed that mark with 223 on 42 carries against Northwestern.
Touchdown-less in Three Games
By holding Northwestern to three points today, the Wolverines have now held the Wildcats without a touchdown in three consecutive games. Not since the fourth quarter of the 1996 meeting between the two schools has Northwestern scored a touchdown against Michigan. Since 1996, Michigan has held Northwestern to two field goals and six points in each of the last two meetings, in 1997 and 1998.
First Timers
Cato June (Washington, D.C./Anacostia HS) made his first career start today at free safety. Kurt Anderson (Glenbrook, Ill./South HS) made his first appearance on offense today after playing defense prior to today's game. Deitan Dubuc (Fabreville, Quebec/Vieux Montreal) made his first career reception on a 23-yard pass from Jason Kapsner (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) in the fourth quarter. Brandon Kornblue (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton HS) made his first career appearance today and ended the game's scoring with a field goal to put Michigan up 37-3. Nose tackle Jason Ptak (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt HS) has his first career sack, for a loss of 10 yards.
Two-Way Freshman
Ronald Bellamy (New Orleans, La./Archbishop Shaw HS) made his first defensive appearance this afternoon playing cornerback. Bellamy also played wide receiver and joins David Terrell and Marcus Knight (Sylacauga, Ala./Comer HS) as the only Wolverines to play both ways in the same game this season.
Knight Continues Climb
Marcus Knight tallied his fourth touchdown this season on a 45-yard pass from Tom Brady in the second quarter to put the Wolverines up 12-0. Knight moved up to 13th all-time in receiving yards, jumping ahead of Ralph Clayton. Knight's start today at wide receiver marked his 20th start.
Career Starts
James Hall (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine HS), Tommy Hendricks (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS), Josh Williams (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek HS) played their 45th career games today. Hendricks and Rob Renes (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) made their 34th career starts and Steve Hutchinson (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) made his 30th. Eric Brackins (Pigeon Forge, Tenn./Gatlingburg-Pittman HS) also played in his 20th career game.
