| Gannon Reichenbach |
Gannon, Michigan's leading scorer with 17 goals and 42 points, becomes Michigan's third-ever first team selection, eclipsing her second team honors last season. Gannon's 42 points on the season are the fourth highest single-season total in Wolverine history, as are the 17 goals.
Reichenbach, the 1999 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, has been the heart of one of the nation's best defenses for four years. She scored six goals for the Wolverines this season, including three game-winners, the most dramatic of which came on a penalty stroke against No. 3 Wake Forest in the national quarterfinals to give Michigan a 3-2 double-overtime win and a trip to the Final Four.
Gannon and Reichenbach were repeat selections on the West Regional All-America first team and were joined on the first team by junior midfielder Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield-Mount Hermon HS). Senior defender and co-captain Erica Widder (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) was named to the all-region second team for the second straight year. Reid tied for the Michigan lead with an all-time high of 22 assists (40 points), while Widder consistently played as one of the nation's best defenders.
Michigan finished the season with a 20-7 record and a No. 2 national ranking. In its first-ever NCAA Tournament, the Maize and Blue advanced all the way to the championship game before falling 2-1 to top-ranked Maryland. The Wolverines will return nine of 11 starters for the 2000 season.
