Carr Wins 30th Big Ten Game
Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr got his 30th career Big Ten Conference win with today's 31-27 come-from-behind victory against Penn State. Carr has a 30-9 conference record and is 47-13 overall for his career. He has won compiled a 10-1 record against Associated Press top 10 teams and claimed his third consecutive victory over Penn State.
Thomas Rushes for 100 Yards ... Again
Junior tailback Anthony Thomas (Winnfield, La./Winnfield HS) gained 100 yards rushing for the fourth straight game and sixth time this season. He rushed 34 times for 127 yards against Penn State and scored his 35th career rushing touchdown on a two-yard run in the first quarter. Thomas finished the first half with 21 carries for 85 yards.
Terrell Sets Career High Against Penn State
Sophomore wide receiver David Terrell (Richmond, Va./Huguenot HS) surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark for the fourth time this season, catching six passes for 133 yards against Penn State. Terrell recorded his 70th career reception and surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for his career in the Penn State game (73 receptions for 1,022 yards). He leads the team with 59 receptions this season for 873 yards.
Knight Grabs Two TDs
Senior wide receiver Marcus Knight (Sylacauga, Ala./Comer HS) set a career high with two touchdown receptions against Penn State, scoring on 35- and 11-yard receptions. Knight caught five passes for 79 yards against Penn State, including the game-winning 11-yard touchdown pass.
Gold Rush
Senior inside linebacker Ian Gold (Belleville, Mich./Belleville HS) had a big game against Penn State, recording eight solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Gold surpassed the 175-tackle plateau for his career in the game (179) and set a new season best (71).
Cross Guard
Sophomore tailback Walter Cross (Fort Washington, Md./Oxon Hill HS) had a team season-long 53-yard kickoff return in the Penn State game. Cross rushed once for two yards in the game and returned three kickoffs for 85 yards.
Brady-2K
Senior quarterback Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS) completed 17-of-36 passing for 259 and two touchdowns in the win over Penn State, pushing his season passing yardage to 2,067. Brady joins Todd Collins (1993-94) as the only Michigan quarterbacks to throw for 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. Brady also started his 23rd straight game to take over sole possession of eighth place on U-M's consecutive starts list.
Milestone Starts and Games Played
-- Jeff Backus (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS), Tommy Hendricks (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS) and Rob Renes (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) started their 35th consecutive contests in the Penn State game.
-- Seniors Dhani Jones (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill HS), Marcus Knight and Aaron Shea (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa HS) played in their 45th career games at Michigan.
-- Senior wide receiver and punt returner DiAllo Johnson (Detroit, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS) played in his 30th career contest in the Penn State game. Johnson returned five punts for 57 yards and returned his final punt of the day 24 yards to set up the game-winning drive.
