Field Hockey Rebounds to Beat Wake Forest 2-1
9/7/1998 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
Amy Philbrook (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS) notched her second and third goals of the season in the first half to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead at the break. The Demon Deacons came out with an early goal in the second half from Lisa Andres, but it was not enough as Michigan sat back and played defensive hockey, allowing just four shots in the second half. U-M goalie Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) had another solid game, giving up just one goal and keeping her season goals against average at 1.00.
The win was important for Michigan as the Wolverines head into a three-game homestand during the upcoming week. Southwest Missouri State will be the next foe on the list for the Maize and Blue as the Bears come to town Thursday (Sept. 10) at 4 p.m. The weekend games will feature cross-state rival Central Michigan on Friday (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m. and Stanford on Sunday (Sept. 13) at 1 p.m.

NOTES
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARCIA PANKRATZ
"This was a big win for us. We had a tough loss to Maryland on Saturday, and we knew this was going to be a tough game. I think it was very important to rebound and come away with a win. It would have been nice to win both games, but overall, I am happy with the way the team played."
